Penn State Extension is hiring an AREA MASTER GARDENER COORDINATOR - AREA C (south-central Pennsylvania). This individual will work with Penn State Extension's Master Gardener Programs in Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata, Mifflin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, Schuylkill, and York counties, with additional statewide responsibilities.
This individual will provide regional leadership and coordination for the Master Gardener Program through collaborative relationships with the State Master Gardener Coordinator, County Master Gardener Coordinators, MG volunteers, Extension Educators, faculty, and administrators. Responsibilities include direct supervision of county Master Gardener coordinators within the geographic area. The individual will be involved in growing the Penn State Master Gardener Program through effective training, development of communication systems, and adherence to the strategic plan. The role also involves developing a statewide funding portfolio including grants, contracts, and fund development.
Hybrid work arrangements are available; the base office must be within the geographic area served.
Supervise and evaluate County Master Gardener Coordinators to uphold the mission and policies of the Penn State Master Gardener Program, ensuring adherence to focus, branding, and policies.
Collaborate with the State MG Coordinator to plan and facilitate statewide initiatives, including volunteer training, conferences, and opportunities.
Work with the Master Gardener Leadership Team to set strategic directions at various levels.
Coordinate annual remote basic training for new volunteers via Zoom, ensuring uniform quality across the state.
Assist County MG Coordinators in implementing local training programs.
Coordinate media outreach efforts utilizing various media platforms.
Contribute to program evaluation and generate annual impact reports.
Develop revenue streams through educational products, programs, fundraisers, sponsorships, and grants, potentially serving as Principal Investigator on grants.
Participate in the hiring, orientation, and performance management of County Master Gardener Coordinators.

Minimum requirements include a master's degree and at least eight years of relevant experience in horticulture, entomology, plant pathology, or a related field, including three or more years of supervisory experience. Experience in volunteer management, leadership development, community partnerships, and strong organizational and communication skills are essential. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite is required. A valid driver's license and access to a car are necessary, with regular travel expected within the geographic area. Background checks, including motor vehicle records, will be conducted.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience managing volunteers and employees, horticulture background, adult education experience, and proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, and databases.
