Sonesta International Hotels is seeking an Area Events Manager to service catering and social events across three Chicago hotels. You will liaise between clients and hotel operations, oversee on-site functions, and drive repeat business through exceptional event execution.

The role emphasizes pre-event planning, on-site management, and post-event follow-up, with a focus on revenue and profitability. A bachelor’s degree and 3+ years in catering leadership are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university; and a minimum of three years of catering and/or convention services leadership experience.
• Ability to analyze reports and develop and implement strategies to improve outcomes.
• Ability to speak effectively to groups including customers and employees.

Responsibilities

• Pre-Event Planning: ensure contracts and details are accurate; update Delphi; design event diagrams; upsell and prepare resumes and BEOs.
• On-Site Execution: be on-site for client functions; own program details from arrival to departure; supervise pre-con meetings and blocks.
• Post-Event: finalize banquet checks and billing; follow up with clients.
• Administrative: distribute BEOs; turnovers; reports; file management.
• Supportive Functions: assist with equipment movement; conduct update meetings; manage turnover worksheets and forecasting.
