Job summary

Sonesta International Hotels in Chicago seeks an Area Events Manager to service catering and social events across three Royal Sonesta properties. You will coordinate with clients and hotel operations, oversee on-site execution, and drive pre-event planning to maximize profitability.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree with at least three years in catering/convention services leadership, plus strong English communication and MS Office skills. Availability for evenings/weekends is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of three years catering/convention services leadership experience.
• Ability to analyze reports and develop strategies to improve outcomes.
• Ability to calculate discounts, interest, commissions and percentages.
• Ability to speak effectively to groups including customers and employees.
• Must speak fluent English.
• Excellent oral and written communication.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays.

Responsibilities

• Oversee pre-event planning and ensure accurate program details with clients.
• Coordinate site inspections, inventory updates, and contract turns in Delphi.
• Prepare BEOs, banquet checks, and rooming lists with client sign-off.
• Manage on-site execution, client communication, and department coordination.
• Process paperwork to document revenue, attrition, and cancellations.
• Attend pre-convention meetings and conduct post-event follow-up.
