Job summary

UIC Science is seeking an Outreach and Engagement Manager to lead and grow its established outreach program supporting Arctic research. This role builds a team working with researchers and Indigenous communities to promote two-way communication and share findings through events and school programs.

The role requires cultural awareness, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to develop lasting relationships between researchers and Arctic communities.

Qualifications

• Indigenous Arctic community experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher required.
• Strong computer skills: Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.
• Willingness to travel for site visits and outreach events.
• Experience presenting to large groups is required.
• Prior O&E experience is favored.
• Experience creating mixed media content is expected.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive company vehicle.
• Must pass pre-employment background check.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate scope, schedule, and budget for O&E projects.
• Supervise Science Liaisons and allocate tasks.
• Create content across podcasts, flyers, and event programs.
• Submit weekly/monthly program deliverables per contract.
• Engage Utqiaġvik and other Arctic communities in co-production.
• Monitor progress and report results to stakeholders.
• Build relationships with institutions like the Alaska Eskimo Whaling Commission.
• Deliver conference presentations on community co-production of knowledge.
• Plan local outreach events with the Science Liaison.
• Lead planning for the annual BARC Science Fair in Utqiaġvik.
• Represent UIC Science at meetings and events.
