Job description

At COCOON, we’re reimagining the remodeling experience—making it simpler, clearer, and more thoughtful for every customer. Great remodeling begins with great design documentation, and as we continue to grow, consistency and clarity become just as important as creativity.

As our Architectural Design Advisor, you’ll help lead the quality, consistency, and reliability of everything produced by the Architectural Design Team—from early space planning through permit-ready drawing sets. This is not a traditional Architectural Designer role. While you may step into production work when needed, your primary responsibility is guiding output: establishing standards, improving systems, reviewing work for accuracy and constructability, and helping the team consistently produce high-quality architectural documentation.

Working closely with the Design Manager, you’ll support the day-to-day direction of the architectural team while helping COCOON continue building a design process that is clear, efficient, and scalable.

What You’ll Do

Lead Standards & Documentation Systems
  • Develop and maintain COCOON’s architectural drawing standards including annotations, dimensioning, notes, sheet layouts, and naming conventions.
  • Build and refine reusable templates, title blocks, standard details, and drafting systems that improve speed and consistency.
  • Establish standardized approaches for common remodeling conditions, framing assumptions, and permit requirements.
  • Continuously improve workflows and documentation systems by identifying recurring issues and refining standards.
Oversee Quality & Accuracy
  • Review architectural deliverables at key project milestones including concept layouts, estimating sets, and permit drawings.
  • Ensure drawings are accurate, coordinated, constructible, and aligned with COCOON’s standards.
  • Identify inconsistencies, omissions, and constructability concerns before projects move into estimating or production.
  • Maintain alignment between Architecture, Interior Design, Estimating, and Production teams.
Support Team Direction & Workflow
  • Help direct daily priorities and project workflow within the architectural department.
  • Coach and support designers through thoughtful review and feedback.
  • Assist the team in navigating complex zoning, structural, and permitting challenges.
  • Step into production work when needed to support deadlines, overflow, or high-priority deliverables.
  • Partner with Project Advisors and the Design Manager to support a clear and confident customer experience.
  • Work closely with Estimating to ensure drawing sets are complete and easy to price accurately.
  • Collaborate with Production to reduce field questions and improve build clarity.
  • Help translate lessons learned from completed projects into stronger standards moving forward.

What You’ll Bring

  • Strong residential remodeling and architectural design experience.
  • Advanced understanding of construction documentation and drafting standards.
  • Experience building templates, systems, and repeatable workflows.
  • Ability to review work critically while coaching others constructively.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills across multiple active projects.
  • Proficiency in Chief Architect or equivalent drafting/modeling software.
  • Strong understanding of constructability and coordination with estimating and production teams.
  • Clear communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Who You Are

  • Detail-oriented and systems-minded
  • Calm under pressure and deadline-driven
  • Collaborative and solutions-focused
  • Passionate about clarity, organization, and continuous improvement
  • Motivated to help teams produce consistently excellent work
