Job description

At COCOON, we believe every home has the potential to be reimagined. As an Interior Designer, you’ll guide our customers through Stage 2 of the COCOON process—the moment when ideas become tangible. You’ll help customers feel confident and excited as they make design decisions, selecting the finishes and details that transform their space into something beautiful, functional, and unmistakably theirs.

This role is about more than selecting materials. It’s about creating a simple, stress-free experience for our customers while ensuring every design is fresh, accurate, and aligned with COCOON’s vision. You’ll collaborate closely with Sales, Architecture, Estimating, and Production to bring each project to life with clarity and care.

This position reports directly to the Design Manager.

What You’ll Do

Guide Customers Through the Design Process

  • Lead customers through Stage 2 of the COCOON process, from allowances to final selections.
  • Help customers select cabinetry, countertops, tile, flooring, hardware, plumbing and lighting fixtures, paint colors, and other renovation-specific finishes.
  • Create design presentations using mood boards, renderings, and material samples to build confidence and excitement.
  • Conduct in-studio and in-home meetings to guide decisions and maintain momentum.

Design Development & Documentation

  • Develop design schemes that align with customer goals, budgets, and COCOON standards.
  • Prepare cabinetry layouts and collaborate with cabinet specialists on pricing and details.
  • Maintain accurate selections, specifications, and approvals in Buildertrend.
  • Prepare detailed documentation including plans, elevations, renderings, and selection sheets.

Project Coordination & Communication

  • Collaborate with Sales, Architecture, Estimating, and Production teams to ensure a seamless transition from design to construction.
  • Schedule and lead design meetings, team huddles, and internal reviews.
  • Communicate timelines, next steps, and expectations clearly to customers.

Maintain Quality & Budget Alignment

  • Track selections against project budgets and allowances.
  • Reconcile pricing with the Cost Evaluation team prior to contract finalization.
  • Ensure all selections are approved before ordering and construction begins.
What You’ll Bring
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in residential interior design.
  • Formal education in Interior Design or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge of cabinetry, materials, and residential finishes.
  • Proficiency in Chief Architect, 2020, and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Experience guiding customers through selections and design decisions.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
