Job description

Job Description

We are seeking Archaeological Technicians to join Terracon for ongoing and future archaeological projects. This is an 'as needed' position, primarily supporting our teams in the southeast, with potential opportunities to work with Terracon Archaeology Groups nationwide.

General Responsibilities:

Provide archaeological support, including surveys, testing, excavations, and documentation. Adhere to strict safety standards.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Follow safety rules, participate in pre-task planning, and report safety issues.
  2. Maintain quality standards across all projects.
  3. Assist with archaeological fieldwork such as surveys, excavations, artifact collection, and documentation.
  4. Conduct archaeological surveys and excavations using accepted methods under supervision.
  5. Identify artifacts and stratigraphy, recording information accurately.
  6. Support senior staff with additional tasks as needed.
  7. Communicate basic findings to the Crew Chief or Archaeologist.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least one year of professional CRM archaeological experience in the southeastern United States.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field.
  • Ability to travel extensively.
  • Minimum six months of professional archaeological experience (CRM).
  • Basic knowledge of artifact identification, soils, and stratigraphy.
  • Ability to document fieldwork on standard forms.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing schedules and project needs.
  • Physical ability to perform demanding tasks, including lifting and walking on uneven surfaces, and working in extreme weather conditions.
  • Pass drug screening.
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • Possession of a valid U.S. driver's license with acceptable violation history.
