Job summary

Terracon is seeking an Archaeology Field Technician to support surveys, testing, and excavations on multiple projects. You will assist with fieldwork, artifact collection, and documentation while adhering to safety and quality standards.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Archaeology or Anthropology, completion of a field school, basic artifact identification knowledge, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and GPS tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology.
• Completion of an archaeological field school or equivalent experience.
• Basic knowledge of artifact identification, soils and stratigraphy.
• Familiar with Microsoft Office programs.
• Able to use Global Positioning Systems (GPS).
• A valid driver’s license may be required.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety rules and standards for all projects; participate in pre-task planning.
• Maintain quality standards on all projects.
• Assist with archaeological fieldwork such as survey, excavation, artifact collection and documentation.
• Conduct surveys or excavations using common tools under supervision.
• Identify artifacts and document stratigraphy on standard forms.
• Support senior staff and assist with additional tasks as needed.
• Maintain equipment and communicate information to the Crew Chief.

Provide archaeological support which may include archaeological surveys, testing, or excavations, and corresponding documentation. Adhere to strict safety standards.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities

• Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
• Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
• Responsible for assisting with archaeological fieldwork, such as survey, excavation, artifact collection and basic documentation.
• Conduct archaeological surveys or excavations using common archaeological tools and methods under the supervision of a Crew Chief or higher.
• Identify artifacts and basic stratigraphy, recording information on standardized forms.
• Assist more senior staff with other tasks as needed.
• Maintain equipment.
• Communicate basic information to Crew Chief or Archaeologist.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field.
• Completion of an archaeological field school from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
• Basic knowledge of artifact identification, soils, and stratigraphy.
• Familiar with Microsoft Office programs.
• Able to use Global Positioning Systems
• A valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history may be required.
