Job summary

Logan Simpson is seeking an Archaeological Field Director to lead field operations in our Tempe office. The role focuses on coordinating cultural resources surveys, monitoring, and data recovery with an emphasis on quality documentation and team leadership.

Ideal candidates will have 5+ years in CRM, strong technical writing skills, and the ability to secure permits and manage project workloads in Arizona. Hybrid work with remote options is available and relocation assistance may be provided.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or closely related field.
• 5+ years of CRM experience and supervising field survey, excavation, and monitoring with reports.
• Sufficient field experience to be listed as a Project Director on an Arizona State Museum blanket permit.
• Ability to obtain Field Director level permits with BLM, National Forest, and other lands in AZ.
• Knowledge of Section 106 and federal historic preservation regulations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work outdoors in extreme temperatures and remote locations (camping possible).
• Walk up to 10 miles per day over steep terrain.
• Team-oriented and able to work independently managing workloads.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Managing fieldwork on cultural resources projects across Arizona and adjacent states.
• Record cultural resources in the field, manage a field crew, use GPS data recorders, prepare site records, and perform QA/QC on data.
• Prepare complex technical documents for a full range of cultural resources projects.
• Mentor other staff.
