Job summary

Logan Simpson in Flagstaff, AZ is seeking an Archaeological Field Director to lead fieldwork on cultural resources projects across Arizona and adjacent states. This full-time position offers a hybrid schedule and the opportunity to mentor staff while managing field crews and complex reporting.

You will oversee surveys, monitoring, testing, data recovery, and QA/QC of data, while coordinating permits and ensuring compliance with Section 106 and other regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or a related field.
• 5+ years of CRM experience and demonstrated supervision of field surveys, excavation, and monitoring.
• Ability to obtain field director level permits with agencies in Arizona (BLM, National Forests, etc.).
• Knowledge of Section 106 review and related federal historic preservation regulations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to work outdoors in extreme temperatures and remote locations (camping possible).
• Walk up to 10 miles per day over steep terrain.
• Able to work cooperatively in a team and manage workloads, schedules, and budgets.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Managing fieldwork on cultural resources projects, including surveys, archaeological monitoring, testing, and data recovery, throughout Arizona and adjacent states.
• Record cultural resources in the field, manage a field crew, operate GPS units with a data recorder, prepare site records, and conduct QA/QC on all digital and paper field data.
• Proficiently and independently preparing complex technical documents for a full range of cultural resources project types.
• Mentoring other staff.
