Job summary

Reston Association seeks an Arborist Supervisor to lead tree care across RA facilities and natural areas in Reston, VA. The role requires overseeing pruning, removals, inspections, hazard mitigation, and emergency responses with advanced climbing techniques and specialized equipment.

The position requires a minimum of 10 years in tree management with supervisory experience, plus knowledge of local species, pests, and disease management. On-site work four days/week at RA Central Services Facility.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
• Minimum of 10 years of tree management experience, including supervisory experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience performing basic engine and hydraulic system repairs.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience reading property maps and locating boundaries.
• Knowledge of local tree species, pests, diseases, and tree health management practices.
• Experience with ANSI Z133 and A300 Standards for Tree Work.
• Ability to lead hazardous tree removal and advanced rigging safely.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and perform complex tree care operations including pruning, removals, inspections, hazard mitigation, and emergency response.
• Oversee tree health programs and manage contracted tree work within budgets.
• Coordinate staff and contractor activities; develop operational plans and supervise maintenance records.
• Support storm recovery, disaster response, and snow removal operations.
