Job summary

Mount Auburn Cemetery is seeking an Arboriculture Manager to lead a two-arborist team across 175 acres, ensuring care of an extensive tree collection dating back over two centuries. You will manage pruning rotations, pest monitoring, and budget while coordinating with the Landscape Operations team.

The role requires climbing, pruning, and field leadership, with field time roughly one-third, plus collaboration with Plant Collections for succession planning and planting.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years’ tree climbing and pruning experience; 8+ years preferred.
• Two years’ staff management experience and decisive decision-making.
• Certified ISA arborist or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• TRAQ certified or willing to obtain within 12 months.
• Licenses: MA Hoisting 2A; Pesticide license; Driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Oversee care of Mount Auburn’s tree collection across 175 acres; supervise two arborists.
• Manage scheduling, payroll approvals, and safety, including field work ~30% time.
• Oversee arboriculture vendors and budget; coordinate with mechanics for equipment.
• Scout for pests, apply pesticides, and maintain records and reports.
• Collaborate with other departments and support organization-wide duties.
