Lead Arborist — Team Leader for Advanced Arboriculture

Job summary

Arboretum Foundation is seeking a Lead Arborist in Seattle to lead a two-person climbing arborist team and perform skilled tree care in accordance with ANSI A300 and Z133 standards. Reporting to the Arboretum Manager of Horticulture, you will plan work, supervise safety, and coordinate with UW campus grounds and Seattle Parks and Recreation tree crews.

The role requires ISA Certified Arborist and TRAQ credentials, several years of field experience, and the ability to operate equipment such as

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or an equivalent combination of training and relevant work experience.
• Three years experience as an Arborist, at least one of which as a Lead Arborist
• Ability to climb trees with a rope and saddle.
• Possession of ISA Certified Arborist certification.
• ISA Tree Risk Assessor Certification (TRAQ)
• Tree appraisal training and experience
• Experience safely operating and maintaining equipment including wood chippers, stump grinders, chain saws, utility vehicles, tractors, mowers, trimmers, and blowers.
• Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate weekly arboriculture work planning and scheduling.
• Supervise team of Arborists.
• Assist with hiring and onboarding of new Arborists.
• Develop and follow an arboriculture work plan with the Manager of Horticulture.
• Assign work and conduct annual performance evaluations.
• Lead Arborists on removals, pruning, and inspections.
• Train horticulture staff in arboriculture topics.
• Enforce safety rules and regulations.
• Obtain arborist contractor quotes and coordinate contractor work.
• Coordinate with UW campus grounds and Seattle Parks and Recreation tree crews.
