Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED. Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred. Applicants with an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
• Demonstrated language proficiency to interpret, translate and transcribe between Arabic and English.
• Native-level cultural expertise, in-depth knowledge of history, geopolitics, strategic interests, traditions, and cultural uniqueness of Arabic and regional societies.
• Professional-level writing and reporting skills in the Arabic language.
• Ability to communicate complex technical information in clear and simple terms.
• Exemplary interpersonal skills and ability to interact with individuals and groups in a wide variety of highly sensitive situations.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and translate verbal communications (Arabic to English, and English to Arabic); provide translation services during interviews and meetings; and transcribe and analyze spoken communications.
• Interpret and translate written communications in English and Arabic, including district policies and procedures, parent correspondence, etc.
• Ensure communications and translations are conveyed and understood in the proper context.
• Observe and analyze culture-specific non-verbal indicators and cues as they relate to written or spoken communications.
• Translate in a manner that is factually and conceptually accurate without changes, omissions, or additions.
• Monitor (listening to), translating and synopsizing content of real-time oral communications recordings.
• Provide the cultural and ethnic context of translations and interpretations and provide advice to the administrator on cultural significance.
• Perform quality control of translations in Arabic to ensure linguistic and culturally appropriate materials are available to LEP audiences.
• Provide administrative support related to specific areas of assignment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
