Job summary

Utica Community Schools is seeking an Arabic Translator and Interpreter for the Community Education Center. You will interpret and translate between Arabic and English, both verbally in interviews and meetings and in writing, ensuring accuracy and cultural context.

You will work under the Executive Director of School Improvement, State and Federal Programs, providing translations of district policies, parent communications, and related documents, while maintaining confidentiality and

Responsibilities

• Interpret and translate verbal communications (Arabic to English, and English to Arabic) in interviews and meetings; transcribe and analyze spoken communications.
• Interpret and translate written communications in English and Arabic, including district policies and parent correspondence.
• Ensure translations are conveyed and understood in the proper context.
• Observe and analyze culture-specific non-verbal cues as they relate to communications.
• Translate accurately without changes, omissions or additions.
• Monitor, translate and summarize real-time oral communications.
• Provide cultural context and advice to administrators on statements and conversations.
• Perform quality control of translations to ensure LEP access to materials.
• Provide administrative support related to assignment areas.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position: Arabic Translator and Interpreter

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED. Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred. Applicants with an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
• Demonstrated language proficiency to interpret, translate and transcribe between Arabic and English.
• Task performance requires native-level cultural expertise, in-depth knowledge of history, geopolitics, strategic interests, traditions, and cultural uniqueness of Arabic and regional societies.
• Professional-level writing and reporting skills in the Arabic language.
• Ability to communicate complex technical information in clear and simple terms.
• Exemplary interpersonal skills and ability to interact with individuals and groups in a wide variety of highly sensitive situations.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Description:

• Interpret and translate verbal communications (Arabic language to English, and English to Arabic language); provide translation services during interviews and meetings; and transcribe and analyze spoken communications.
• Interpret and translate written communications in English and Arabic, including but not limited to district policies and procedures, parent correspondence, etc.
• Ensure communications and translations are conveyed and understood in the proper context.
• Observe and analyze culture-specific non-verbal indicators and cues as they relate to written or spoken communications.
• Translate in a manner that is factually and conceptually accurate without changes, omissions, or additions.
• Monitoring (listening to), translating and synopsizing content of real-time oral communications recordings.
• Accurately provide the cultural and ethnic context of translations and interpretations and provide advice to the administrator on the cultural and ethnic significance of statements, conversations, situations, documents.
• Perform quality control of translations in Arabic to ensure that linguistic and culturally appropriate materials are available to Limited English Proficiency (LEP) audiences.
• Provide administrative support related to specific areas of assignment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
