Job summary

YMCA of San Diego County is seeking an Aquatics Coordinator to support the Aquatics Director in maintaining a safe pool environment and supervising staff. You will work on scheduling, program development, and member service.

Key duties include lifeguard supervision, swim lesson instruction, chemical management, and equipment upkeep. Strong leadership and relevant certifications are essential for this full-time role with evening/weekend hours.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a lifeguard.
• Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification or ARC WSI (must crossover to YMCA within 6 months).
• Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (must crossover to YMCA in 6 months).
• Lifeguard Instructor certification, desirable.
• Current First Aid for Public Safety Personnel from ARC/Heart/SHI or equivalent.
• Current CPR PRO/AED from ARC/HEALTH or equivalent.
• Current O2 certification.
• Current CPO certification within 60 days of employment.
• Previous experience in supervision of staff.
• Must pass written and practical skills prior to duty.

Responsibilities

• Assist Aquatics Director in staff scheduling for all shifts and lessons.
• Implement new aquatics programs.
• Resolve problems with members and facility; report issues to Aquatics Director.
• Maintain pump room operations, chemical levels, and water quality.
• Ensure pool equipment functions properly and is maintained.
• Perform chemical tests and maintenance when not lifeguarding.
• Supervise Aquatic staff in absence of Director and enforce policies.
• Assist in staff training and development.
• Conduct lifeguard drills and ensure safe operations.
• Develop aquatic programming for a diverse membership base.
• Outreach to enroll and retain class participants.
• Develop and oversee budget for swim lesson programs.
• Ensure staff certifications meet YMCA standards.
