Job summary

YMCA of San Diego County is seeking a Head Lifeguard to oversee safety and operations for the aquatics area. Under the Aquatics Director, you will supervise staff, perform rescues, and ensure premier member service.

The role requires current lifeguard and safety certifications, 2+ years experience, and the ability to act as Manager on Duty on certain days. The position includes shift coverage Wed-Fri mornings and weekend hours.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years lifeguard experience.
• Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (must crossover to YMCA in 6 months).
• Current First Aid for Public Safety Personnel from ARC/HAI.

Responsibilities

• Practice preventive lifeguard techniques; maintain zone of responsibility.
• Perform rescues and administer First Aid/CPR/AED or O2 as needed.
• Monitor pool operations: chemical levels, water clarity, and safety equipment.
• Report safety issues to Aquatic Director/Coordinator promptly.
• Supervise Aquatic Staff in the absence of leadership.
• Interact professionally with members and participants; resolve issues or escalate as needed.
• All other duties as assigned by the Aquatics leadership.
