Job summary

YMCA is seeking a Lifeguard to supervise pool areas, ensuring safe swimming conditions and enforcing health and safety rules. You will perform rescues, tests, and emergency responses while providing a welcoming environment for members and guests.

The role requires at least 15 years old, YMCA/Red Cross lifeguard certification, and the ability to communicate clearly and act calmly in emergencies. A team-oriented, safety-first mindset is essential.

Qualifications

• Must pass an advanced swimming and rescue skills test.
• Lifeguard certification (YMCA or Red Cross) is required.
• Must be at least 15 years old and demonstrate mature judgment, positive interaction, and safety awareness.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck, and surrounding areas.
• Prevent accidents by scanning assigned zone and following the 10/10 rule.
• Perform swim tests as required by policy.
• Enforce health and safety rules and maintain emergency readiness.
• Respond to emergencies per YMCA procedures.
• Create a welcoming, nurturing environment for members and guests.
• Develop rapport with members and staff; work as part of a team.
• Complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Perform routine maintenance of pool and facilities to ensure cleanliness.
• Check equipment and report problems; set up and store equipment for swims.
• Complete mandatory in-service trainings; uphold YMCA core values.
• Work scheduled shifts; substitutes require prior approval from the Aquatics Director.
