Job summary

The Aquatics Coordinator at YMCA of South Hampton Roads will supervise pool operations, deliver swim instruction, and lead staff to ensure a safe, fun aquatic experience for members and program participants.

The role requires lifeguard and swim instructor certifications, strong leadership, and the ability to respond to emergencies, with flexible hours including early mornings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid.
• Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding (instructor preferred).
• Current YMCA Swim Instructor Certification or Red Cross WSI.
• Maintain certification-level readiness and lifeguard skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides supervision of the pool deck, entrances and high‑risk areas.
• Assists in training and scheduling personnel as assigned.
• Responds to emergencies per YMCA policies; completes required reports.
• Maintains positive relationships with members and staff.
• Monitors daily pool operations to comply with health and safety regulations.
• Conducts lifeguarding and swim instruction.
