Job summary

Colonial Williamsburg Foundation seeks a Coach & Livestock Stable team member to care for cattle, sheep and poultry and to illustrate 18th-century Virginia livestock husbandry.

You will breed and assist births, move livestock using oxen and carts, and present talks and tours about the Rare Breeds program across the Historic Area; willingness to work weekends, evenings, and holidays is required.

Qualifications

• Virginia driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• 4+ years with cattle, sheep or poultry and practical livestock knowledge.
• Ability to drive trucks and trailers; operate heavy equipment as needed.
• Strong communication and teamwork; follow oral and written instructions.
• Lift 50 lbs. and work in all weather; flexible schedule including on-call.

Responsibilities

• Care for cattle, sheep and poultry ensuring health and safety.
• Assist with breeding and birthing; coordinate with veterinary personnel.
• Interpret 18th-century livestock husbandry and perform animal movements.
• Use oxen to move freight and for ticketed ox-cart rides under supervision.
• Give talks and tours concerning the Rare Breeds program.
• Maintain livestock equipment and coordinate with other departments as needed.
• Work weekends, evenings, and holidays; participate in special events.
