Job summary

Colonial Williamsburg Foundation in Williamsburg, VA seeks a dedicated Livestock Stable Caregiver to manage cattle, sheep, and poultry with an emphasis on 18th-century movement practices. You will care for livestock health, assist with breeding, and perform interpretations of historic husbandry within the historic area.

The role requires driving trucks, lifting 50 lbs, and working weekends, evenings, holidays, and on-call emergencies as needed.

Qualifications

• Virginia driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• At least 4 years working with cattle, sheep or poultry.
• Ability to drive trucks and trailers.
• Willingness to lift 50 lbs., work in all weather, and flexible hours.

Responsibilities

• Care for livestock to ensure health and safety.
• Assist with breeding and birthing processes.
• Interpret livestock husbandry in 18th-century Virginia.
• Use oxen to move freight and operate carts/wagons.
• Give talks and tours on the Rare Breeds program.
• Maintain livestock equipment and coordinate with other departments.
• Work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
• Be on emergency standby 24/7 when needed.
