Job summary

Chain Electric Company is hiring an Apprentice Lineman C to learn and perform electrical work on distribution systems, both overhead and underground. This entry level position involves safety procedures, climbing, driving to sites, and assisting journeyman linemen while developing skills toward advancement.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year experience in groundman and lineman work (Lineman training school qualifies for 6 months).
• Ability to travel at a moment's notice, anytime.
• Available to work irregular hours, weekends and holidays, as needed.
• Possess at minimum a valid CDL-B license.
• Possess your own tools.
• Ability to handle physically demanding construction duties in harsh weather conditions.
• Ability to read and follow instructions.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
• Ability to hear long distances.
• Must have color vision and depth perception.

Responsibilities

• Regular attendance and punctuality.
• Adhere to safety practices and report unsafe conditions.
• Climb poles or use bucket trucks to access equipment.
• Construct, maintain, and repair overhead and underground systems and substations.
• Verify proper grounding of equipment.
• Control traffic near work zones.
• Keep unauthorized people away from work area.
• Identify defective equipment using diagrams and testing instruments.
• Drive vehicles to job sites.
• String conductors and set lines, adjust tension.
• Replace or straighten damaged poles.
• Attach cross-arms and insulators to poles.
• Dig holes and set poles with cranes and power equipment.
• Splice or solder cables or conductors.
• Cut insulation from cables before splicing.
• Pull up cable from large reels on trucks.
• Lay underground cable in trenches.
• Dig trenches for laying cables.
