Job summary

Boston Budget Plumbing is seeking an Apprentice HVAC Technician to join our residential service and installation team in Quincy, MA. This role offers hands-on training and a pathway toward licensing, with mentorship and field experience to advance in the trades.

Boston Budget Plumbing is seeking a motivated Apprentice HVAC Technician with hands-on residential HVAC experience to join our residential service and installation team in Quincy, MA.


This position is designed for an apprentice who has a great attitude and excellent understanding of the fundamentals and is ready to continue developing their technical skills, take on greater responsibility, and build a long-term career in the HVAC trade.


Our goal is to provide the training, mentorship, and field experience needed to help you progress toward your next level of licensing and professional development.


Residential HVAC work can be physically demanding and requires technicians to work in a variety of homes and conditions. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, communicates professionally with customers, demonstrates sound judgment, and is serious about advancing in the trade.


What You'll Do


  • Assist with and perform maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and installations on residential HVAC systems.

  • Work with heat pumps, air conditioners, furnaces, boilers, and related heating and cooling equipment.

  • Diagnose equipment issues and learn to identify the appropriate repair or replacement solution.

  • Assist with system startups, testing, commissioning, and ensuring equipment is operating properly.

  • Perform residential HVAC inspections and identify potential system issues.

  • Assist with installation of ductwork, refrigerant lines, condensate systems, electrical connections, and other HVAC components.

  • Follow proper installation procedures, manufacturer specifications, and applicable codes.

  • Use tools, meters, and diagnostic equipment safely and correctly.

  • Provide friendly, professional service while working in customers' homes.

  • Clearly communicate with customers and senior technicians regarding system conditions and recommended work.

  • Accurately document work using a tablet or smartphone for job tracking and service records.

  • Maintain tools, equipment, vehicles, and job sites in a clean and professional condition.

  • Work with technicians, installers, dispatch, and the office team to keep jobs and schedules on track.

  • Continue developing technical skills through hands-on training, field experience, and classroom education.


What We're Looking For


  • Hands-on HVAC experience, preferably in residential service or installation.

  • Current HVAC apprenticeship experience or a strong desire to build a career in the HVAC trade.

  • Working knowledge of basic HVAC principles, including heating, cooling, airflow, and electrical fundamentals.

  • Familiarity with common residential HVAC equipment and components.

  • Ability to safely use basic HVAC hand tools, power tools, meters, and diagnostic equipment.

  • Willingness and ability to learn refrigerant practices, electrical troubleshooting, system diagnostics, and installation procedures.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills.

  • Sound judgment regarding the limits of your experience, with the confidence to work independently when appropriate and the discipline to ask questions when uncertain.

  • Consistent reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.

  • Professional appearance and communication when working in customers' homes.

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting equipment and working in attics, crawl spaces, basements, and other confined or variable conditions.

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

  • Willingness to complete a background check.



  • Residential HVAC service and installation experience.



  • Heat pump installation and troubleshooting.

  • Furnace and boiler service.

  • Air conditioning service and installation.

  • Basic electrical troubleshooting.

  • Refrigerant recovery, evacuation, charging, and leak detection.

  • Ductwork installation or modification.

  • Experience with service calls and customer-facing work.

  • Trade school or HVAC-related classroom education.
