PLATTSMOUTH COMMUNITY SCHOOLS is seeking Apprentice Elementary Teachers who will observe best practices, co-teach with Master Teachers, provide in-house substitute coverage, and support tutoring, grading, and small-group instruction.

Depending on school needs, apprentices may teach their own class under supervision to gain direct experience, develop teaching skills, and become strong candidates for a full-time position within GIPS by the end of the second semester.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education is required.
  • Current Nebraska Teaching Certificate is required.
  • Strong organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Evidence of self-motivation and willingness to collaborate as a team player.

Responsibilities

  • Provide substitute teaching coverage for teachers within the school.
  • Periodically plan and deliver instruction.
  • Develop teaching skills to potentially become a full-time teacher at the school.
  • Observe and work with Master Teachers to improve instructional techniques.
  • Implement curricula and activities to meet academic standards.
  • Design and implement assessments to measure progress towards standards.
  • Use assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices.
  • Participate in curriculum development, professional development, grade-level teams, and school events.
  • Supervise students during transitions, meals, and afterschool periods.
  • Accountable for students' mastery of academic standards.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.

Position Purpose

Apprentice Teachers will have an opportunity to observe best practices in classroom instruction from experienced teachers. Apprentice Teachers co-teach, observe and learn from Master Teachers, provide in-house substitute teaching coverage for teachers, and support teachers with tutoring, grading, and individual or small group student instruction. Depending on school needs and candidate background, Apprentice Teachers may also teach their own class of students, allowing for direct teaching experience within a more limited teaching load under the supervision of the Master Teacher. Apprentice Teachers will have many opportunities to gain the experience and support necessary to develop their teaching skills. By the end of the second semester, Apprentice Teachers will be very strong candidates for a teaching position within GIPS.

Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in education required.
