PLATTSMOUTH COMMUNITY SCHOOLS seeks Apprentice Teachers for Barr Middle School, Walnut Middle School, and Westridge Middle School to observe best practices and co-teach with Master Teachers. You will provide in-house substitute coverage, tutor students, and assist with grading and small-group instruction under supervision.

Depending on needs and background, you may teach a class with limited load, gaining direct teaching experience toward a full position within the district.

  • Observe and work with Master Teachers to improve instructional techniques and classroom management.
  • Implement curricula and activities to meet academic standards.
  • Design and implement assessments to measure progress toward standards.
  • Use assessment data to refine curriculum and inform practices.
  • Participate in curriculum development, professional development, grade-level teams, and school events.
  • Supervise students during transitions, meals, and afterschool.
  • Accountable for students' mastery of standards.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.

Job description

Apprentice teachers for Barr Middle School, Walnut Middle School, and Westridge Middle School

Apprentice Teachers will have an opportunity to observe best practices in classroom instruction from experienced teachers. Apprentice Teachers co-teach, observe and learn from Master Teachers, provide in-house substitute teaching coverage for teachers, and support teachers with tutoring, grading, and individual or small group student instruction. Depending on school needs and candidate background, Apprentice Teachers may also teach their own class of students, allowing for direct teaching experience within a more limited teaching load under the supervision of the Master Teacher. Apprentice Teachers will have many opportunities to gain the experience and support necessary to develop their teaching skills. By the end of the second semester, Apprentice Teachers will be very strong candidates for a teaching position within GIPS.
