Job summary

PLATTSMOUTH COMMUNITY SCHOOLS is seeking Apprentice Teachers who hold a secondary education certificate. You will observe best practices, co-teach with Master Teachers, and provide in-house substitute coverage while supporting tutoring and grading.

Depending on needs, you may teach your own class under supervision to gain direct teaching experience. By the end of the second semester, you should be a strong candidate for a teaching position within GIPS, with opportunities to develop teaching

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in secondary education is required.
• Nebraska Teaching Certificate with a High School endorsement is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide substitute teaching coverage for teachers within the school.
• Periodically plan and deliver instruction.
• Develop teaching skills to potentially become a full-time teacher at the school.
• Observe and work with Master Teachers to improve instructional techniques and classroom management.
• Implement curricula and activities to meet academic standards.
• Design and implement assessments to measure progress towards standards.
• Use assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices.
• Participate in curriculum development, professional development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions.
• Supervise students during transitions, breakfast, lunch and afterschool.
• Ensure students' mastery of academic standards.
• Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.

Job description

Any teacher with a secondary certificate in any area is qualified for this Apprentice Teacher position.

Position Purpose

Apprentice Teachers will have an opportunity to observe best practices in classroom instruction from experienced teachers. Apprentice Teachers co-teach, observe and learn from Master Teachers, provide in-house substitute teaching coverage for teachers, and support teachers with tutoring, grading, and individual or small group student instruction. Depending on school needs and candidate background, Apprentice Teachers may also teach their own class of students, allowing for direct teaching experience within a more limited teaching load under the supervision of the Master Teacher. Apprentice Teachers will have many opportunities to gain the experience and support necessary to develop their teaching skills. By the end of the second semester, Apprentice Teachers will be very strong candidates for a teaching position within GIPS.
