Job summary

Davey Tree Surgery Co. is seeking a utility apprentice climber for outdoor work in Signal Hill, CA. You will learn climbing systems and perform pruning and removal for electric utilities, while operating chainsaws, chippers, and lifting equipment.

A valid driver’s license and an active CDL with airbrake endorsement are required, with training provided on safety and climbing techniques. The role offers opportunities for overtime, travel, and advancement within a large employee‑owned company that

Qualifications

• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Orientation Program upon hire.
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire.
• Required: valid driver’s license
• Required: Commercial Driver’s License-Class A or B with Airbrake Endorsement
• Preferred: line clearance experience or other related tree work
• Preferred: pesticides licenses and certificates if required by state law
• Preferred: ISA Certified Arborist®, ISA Certified Tree Worker®, and/or TCIA Certified Tree Care Safety Professional®

Responsibilities

• Learn climbing systems (DdRT/MRS and SRT/SRS) and perform pruning and removal for major electric utilities.
• Pruning treetops and repairing damaged trees by trimming or removal.
• Remove broken limbs from utility lines, roofs, and other objects.
• Identify trees and prune according to industry guidelines.
• Maintain, prepare and operate tools and equipment including chainsaws and aerial lifts.
• Work as part of a crew with ground crew and foreman.
• Grow your career through progression and on-the-job training.

Job Duties

• Learn how to climb trees. (Yes, we will pay you to do that.) Davey offers both DdRT/MRS and SRT/SRS climbing systems
• Perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for major electric utility providers. Including but not limited to:
• Pruning treetops, repairing damaged trees by trimming or removal
• Removing broken limbs from utility lines, roofs, and other objects
• Tree identification and pruning to industry guidelines
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and more.
• Operate as an active crew member with supporting ground crew and foreman.
