Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company is seeking a utility apprentice climber for Arroyo Grande, CA. You will begin with hands-on climbing training and progressively take on pruning and removal tasks for major electric utilities.

You’ll work on a team with ground crew and foremen, using chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts in a safe, professional setting. Required: valid driver’s license; preferred: CDL-A/B with Airbrake, line clearance experience, and certifications such as ISA Arborist.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors required.
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire.
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire.
• Required: valid driver’s license.
• Preferred: CDL-Class A or B with Airbrake Endorsement.
• Preferred: line clearance experience or other related tree work.
• Preferred: pesticides licenses/certificates where state law requires.
• Preferred: ISA Certified Arborist, ISA Certified Tree Worker, and/or TCIA Certified Tree Care Safety Professional.
• Preferably with a PG&E assessment pass.

Responsibilities

• Learn how to climb trees and use Davey’s climbing systems (DdRT/MRS and SRT/SRS).
• Perform pruning and removal for major electric utility providers, safely and skillfully.
• Prune treetops and repair damaged trees by trimming or removal.
• Remove broken limbs from lines, roofs, and other objects.
• Identify trees and prune to industry guidelines.
• Maintain, prepare and operate tools and equipment including chainsaws and aerial lifts.
• Work as part of a crew with ground staff and foreman.
