Job summary

PowerGrid Services, LLC in Alabama is seeking a trainee lineman helper to assist experienced linemen with installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical distribution systems. You will learn under supervision and gain hands-on experience while prioritizing safety.

Responsibilities

  • Assist experienced linemen with installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical power and distribution systems.
  • Work safely while performing construction, maintenance, or repair work on energized and de-energized conductors.
  • Capable of setting poles and anchors per safety policies and specifications.
  • Learn to read blueprints and understand distribution voltages; assist with inspecting and recognizing structural problems.
  • Work from an aerial device and be able to operate in varied weather environments.

Job description

Responsible for assisting experienced linemen in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical power and distribution systems. Work under the guidance of more experienced linemen to learn the trade and gain practical experience .

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized conductors .

Capable setting poles and anchors according to safety policies and specifications.

Maintains company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.

Capable of learning distribution voltages on a circuit . Must be familiar with induced voltage.

Capable of learning to understand and read blueprints. Capable of assisting with inspecting and recognizing structural problems.

Able to work productively from an aerial device.

Able and willing to function within a team environment and share knowledge with fellow crew members as appropriate .

Able to work alone on de-energized lines. Capable of obtaining knowledge of wire stringing techniques.

Capable of learning and understanding how to sag wire from structure or bucket.

Able to assist with assembly and erect poles to all heights. Able to assist in framing and setting most basic line structures. Able to assist in framing a de-energized pole structure in the air.

Able to assist with installing all types of compression connections.

Capable of working at heights and/or confined spaces.

Capable of properly installing and removing PPE and cover up . Capable of properly inspecting rubber goods, covers and PPE.

Must be able to climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools to do so.

Understands how to tie various lineman knots. Capable of creating and using a hand line.

Understands grounding procedures . Understands principles of proper equipment set-up.

Able to identify different types of materials used in line work.

Understands flag and tag procedures.

Capable of performing basic bucket rescue/escape

All other duties as required .

Job Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent is required .

Valid CDL A is required .

First Aid Certification is required .

Competency in CPR and pole top rescue is required .

Must be able to pass drug, alcohol, and background checks.

Must be able to pass a physical examination.

Able and willing to travel long distances on short notice.

Able and willing to work for extended periods in various locations.

Able and willing to work in all types of weather environments including inclement weather.

Able and willing to work overtime when required .

Understanding of the utility industry and operations.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Working Conditions

Work is performed outside in all types of weather environments.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds .

Ability to bend, climb, stoop, stand, and lift for long periods of time.

Substantial movements of the hands, wrists, and/or fingers.

Required to have close visual acuity to perform job duties.
