Job summary

PowerGrid Services in Alabama is seeking a lineworker to perform safe construction, maintenance, and repair on energized and de-energized conductors. You will learn to set poles, anchors, and understand grounding and wire stringing techniques.

You will work from an aerial device, in all weather, and in a team environment, or independently on de-energized lines. The role requires CDL A, First Aid, CPR, and the ability to pass safety and background checks.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid CDL A license required.
  • First Aid Certification required.
  • CPR and pole top rescue competency required.
  • Must pass drug, alcohol and background checks.
  • Must pass a physical examination.
  • Able to travel long distances on short notice.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely on construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de-energized conductors.
  • Capable of setting poles and anchors per safety specs.
  • Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools in good order.
  • Learn distribution voltages and understanding of induced voltage.
  • Read blueprints and assist in inspecting structural problems.
  • Work from an aerial device and in all weather conditions.
  • Collaborate with team or work independently on de-energized lines.
  • Assist with wire stringing techniques and pole framing.
  • Capable of installing compression connections and performing basic bucket rescue.
  • Understand grounding procedures and equipment setup.

  • Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized conductors. Capable setting poles and anchors according to safety policies and specifications.

  • Maintains company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.

  • Capable of learning distribution voltages on a circuit. Must be familiar with induced voltage.

  • Capable of learning to understand and read blueprints. Capable of assisting with inspecting and recognizing structural problems.

  • Able to work productively from an aerial device.

  • Able and willing to function within a team environment and share knowledge with fellow crew members as appropriate.

  • Able to work alone on de-energized lines. Capable of obtaining knowledge of wire stringing techniques.

  • Capable of learning and understanding how to sag wire from structure or bucket.

  • Able to assist with assembly and erect poles to all heights. Able to assist in framing and setting most basic line structures. Able to assist in framing a de-energized pole structure in the air.

  • Able to assist with installing all types of compression connections.

  • Capable of working at heights and/or confined spaces.

  • Capable of properly installing and removing PPE and cover up. Capable of properly inspecting rubber goods, covers and PPE.

  • Must be able to climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools to do so.

  • Understands how to tie various lineman knots. Capable of creating and using a hand line.

  • Understands grounding procedures. Understands principles of proper equipment set-up.

  • Able to identify different types of materials used in line work.

  • Understands flag and tag procedures.

  • Capable of performing basic bucket rescue/escape

  • All other duties as required.

Job Requirements


  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Valid CDL A is required.

  • First Aid Certification is required.

  • Able and willing to work in all types of weather environments including inclement weather.
