Job summary

Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) Science team is seeking an exceptional Applied Scientist to develop optimization, simulation, and ML solutions for the Fulfillment Network. You will work with scientists, engineers, PMs, and ops leaders to deploy production-grade analytics that improve efficiency and associate experience across the network.

The role emphasizes building scalable models, prototypes, and experiments to drive measurable impact in labor planning, pick assignment, and scheduling.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master's degree with 4+ years of science, technology, engineering or related field experience.
• 2+ years of building models for business applications.
• Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language.
• Experience in operations research, optimization, machine learning, statistics or equivalent.
• Experience developing production code and deploying it.
• Experience with experimental design and data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Develop an understanding of operational processes, system architecture and business requirements.
• Deep dive into data and code to identify opportunities for improvement or new approaches.
• Develop scalable mathematical models for production systems to derive optimal solutions.
• Create prototypes and simulations for agile experimentation of devised solutions.
• Advocate technical solutions to stakeholders and leadership; partner with engineers to productionize prototypes.
• Design experiments to test new or incremental solutions and build metrics to track performance.
