Job summary

Amazon Inc. is seeking a Senior Applied Scientist to lead the design and deployment of optimization models for outbound transportation planning and execution within the SCOT FPX group.

You will develop production-ready solutions that improve efficiency, cost, and carbon impact across the global fulfillment network. You will collaborate with product managers, researchers, and software engineers to push mathematical optimization into production, mentor junior scientists, and drive scalable

Qualifications

• 5+ years of applied research experience.
• 5+ years of industry or academic research experience.
• PhD in Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, CS or related field.
• 5+ years of mathematical optimization (linear programming and nonlinear optimization) experience.
• Experience hiring and leading experienced scientists as well as developing junior members from academia or industry.
• Knowledge of problem solving, algorithm design and complexity analysis.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and evaluate innovative Math models for solving complex business problems.
• Research and apply the latest Optimization techniques and best practices from both academia and industry.
• Think about customers and how to improve the customer delivery experience.
• Use analytical techniques to create scalable solutions for business problems.
• Work closely with software engineering teams to build model implementations and integrate successful models and algorithms in production systems at very large scale.
• Technically lead and mentor other scientists in team.
• Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for large scale data analyses, model development, model validation and model implementation.
