Job summary

Exponent seeks an Applied Electromagnetics & Electric Power Engineer/Scientist (Ph.D.) for its Computer, Data & Security Sciences Practice in New York, NY. The role blends software/hardware analysis to deliver scientific insights for clients across government, industry, and utilities.

You will conduct code reviews, teardowns, simulations, safety assessments, and failure analyses while collaborating with diverse teams. Occasional travel may be required, and US work authorization is mandatory.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Applied Physics or related field.
• Experience with electric power systems and/or electromagnetics/EMF applied to electrical infrastructure.
• High-voltage engineering or applied physics related to utility systems is helpful.
• Experience with finite element analysis, numerical analysis, modeling, and/or simulation.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C/C++, Java, MATLAB.
• Hands-on laboratory experience in electronics, power systems, robotics, controls, ML/AI, or related fields.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently or in teams.
• Willingness to travel; authorized to work in the United States

Responsibilities

• Performing technical analyses related to ongoing Exponent work.
• Engineering and electromagnetic analyses for projects, including EMI, induction, safety and failure analyses.
• Support electric utility projects including EMF assessment and grounding.
• Reliability and failure analysis of electrical/electronic systems and networks.
• Investigate designs through software reviews, reverse engineering and teardowns.
• Present technical results to diverse audiences in verbal and written form.
• Prepare technical proposals for new business, including DoD opportunities.
• Contribute to growth of the practice through your expertise and network.
