Job summary

Exponent is seeking an Electrical Engineer in Bellevue, WA to work on challenging, high-profile projects in electrical infrastructure, power systems, EMF, and failure analysis. You will develop software tools, perform lab/field investigations, and contribute to patent matters and litigation support.

The role emphasizes multidisciplinary teamwork, client communication, and defining your consulting practice based on your strengths. A Ph.D. and US work authorization are expected.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Physics, or a closely related field.
• Experience with electric power systems and/or electromagnetics/EMF applied to electrical infrastructure.
• Hands-on experience building software tools and working with data using Python, including analysis/production-quality software.
• Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship required.
• Experience with relational databases and/or structured datasets.
• Experience with data engineering concepts and building reliable pipelines from raw data to analytics outputs.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills and ability to work independently or in multidisciplinary teams.
• Preferred: SQL, MATLAB, AWS and/or Azure; Palantir Foundry; Power BI; EMF modeling tools; PSCAD.

Responsibilities

• Performing engineering analysis and consulting on electrical infrastructure, power systems, and electrical equipment.
• Supporting electric utility projects including EMF assessment, electromagnetic coupling, grounding, faults, transients.
• Developing software tools to automate analyses, process data, and improve workflows; applying software engineering practices.
• Laboratory or field investigations, data collection, troubleshooting, and failure analysis of electrical equipment.
• Assisting investigations including fire origin/cause support, failure investigations, and patent disputes.
• Preparing technical proposals, interacting with clients, and presenting conclusions in reports and visualizations.
• Working independently and in multidisciplinary teams across a project lifecycle.
• Pursuing business development opportunities and contributing to practice growth.
