Capital One seeks an Applied Researcher to join the AI Foundations team in McLean, VA. You will partner with data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to build AI-powered products that transform how customers interact with their money.

You will develop foundation models using PyTorch, HuggingFace, and cloud platforms, advancing state-of-the-art AI while ensuring production impact through collaboration with ML engineers.

Qualifications

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics or related field required or in process with start date within 2 years.
• MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics or related field plus 4 years of Applied Research experience may be considered as alternative.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products for customer interactions with money.
• Leverage PyTorch, AWS Ultraclusters, HuggingFace, Lightning, and more to extract insights from large data.
• Build AI foundation models from design through training, evaluation, validation, and deployment.
• Conduct applied research to translate AI advancements into customer-ready experiences.
• Translate complex work into tangible business goals through strong communication.
• Lead cross-functional threads linking prototype models to production through ML engineering.
