Job summary

Capital One is seeking an Applied Researcher 4 to join the AI Foundations team in McLean, VA. You will collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, ML engineers and product managers to deliver AI-powered features that enhance customer experiences.

You will build foundation models, train and evaluate them, and translate research into scalable solutions using PyTorch, HuggingFace, AWS, and open‑source tools. A PhD or MS with relevant experience is required.

Qualifications

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or related fields, or MS with 2 years of Applied Research experience.

Responsibilities

• Partner with data scientists, software engineers, ML engineers and product managers to deliver AI-powered products that change how customers interact with their money.
• Build AI foundation models through all phases: design, training, evaluation, validation and implementation.
• Engage in high-impact applied research to push AI developments into customer experiences.
• Translate complex work into tangible business goals.
• Collaborate with senior researchers to summarize methods or findings for reports or submissions.
