As the Applications Developer 1, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable as a Subject Matter Expert for the Universities Ellucian Banner information system and network. You will be an active member of the Computing & Communications Services team and will work closely with the Senior Applications Developer to seamlessly integrate upgrades to support student learning and campus initiatives. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your information technology or coding background and application development experience all while troubleshooting to create comprehensive upgrades for the Student Information System (SIS) and integrated ancillary systems. To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate strong communication skills, proven problem-solving skills, and an extensive understanding of the modern application development life cycle. Your normal schedule will be Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, but you may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Applications Developer 1. This role is 100% in-person employment here at ESU. What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)
- Design and implement web-based solutions for user access to administrative data and functions.
- Customize and implement portal and other vendor products
- Integrating existing systems with new systems.
- Participate in design and implementation of unified authorization system. Develop security scheme and maintenance mechanisms.
- Independent design and development of real-time and/or batch interfaces using application specific tools and/or web services.
- Meets with clients to determine manual or automated processing inefficiencies or problems, business objectives and operational needs, level of utilization of existing systems, and computer equipment capability to identify information technology alternatives and provide solutions for improving operations.
- Conducts detailed studies of the current system, including its procedures, information flows and methods of work organization and control to develop a logical model of the current system.
- Participates in the development of criteria to evaluate complex user applications and determine whether systems can be created using packaged desktop PC software or require traditional application development efforts.
- Serves as a team member on highly complex departmental systems development projects that involve critical business processes, numerous variables and diverse operational requirements.
What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)
Minimum Experience & Training:
- One year as an Information Technology Trainee or Computer Programmer 2.
or
- One Year of Information Technology experience in applications development or application maintenance, and an associate’s degree in any information technology field.
or
- Three years of information technology experience that includes two years of experience in applications development of applications maintenance.
Technical Skills:
- 2+ years' experience with relational database and web development.
- Experience supporting users of computers and information systems. Knowledge of PC spreadsheets and database access tools.
- SQL programming experience required, Oracle Weblogic, C#, Insomina, Postman, Bruno, GITHub, and experience with both UNIX and Windows preferred.

- Ellucian Ethos API Integrations (Spec-Based and Ellucian Partner).

Additional Requirements:

- Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.
- Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.
