Job Summary
The Applications Engineer II develops technically sound and commercially competitive equipment solutions for municipal and industrial wastewater applications. Working with greater independence than the Level I role, this position evaluates customer requirements, sizes and selects equipment, prepares proposals and cost estimates, and coordinates technical information across customers, sales, engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and vendors.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Independently perform application engineering activities for standard and moderately complex municipal and industrial wastewater projects, including equipment sizing, system configuration, and preliminary cost estimates
- Review project specifications, drawings, bid documents, process data, and customer requirements to identify technical risks, clarify scope, and develop compliant proposal strategies
- Evaluate customer needs and recommend appropriate Komline Sanderson equipment and system solutions, escalating highly complex or nonstandard applications when appropriate
- Prepare and review technical proposals, equipment data sheets, specifications, exceptions and clarifications, and customer submittals for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project requirements
- Develop budgetary and firm pricing by coordinating with procurement, vendors, suppliers, engineering, and manufacturing for ancillary equipment, custom components, and project-specific requirements
- Serve as a technical resource to customers, sales representatives, and channel partners by responding to detailed inquiries and clearly communicating equipment capabilities, limitations, and application considerations
- Lead technical portions of customer meetings, proposal reviews, and internal opportunity discussions; document decisions, assumptions, open items, and follow-up actions
- Maintain accurate project, opportunity, pricing, and customer information within Salesforce CRM and other applicable business systems
- Own the technical portion of order handoff activities by ensuring scope, assumptions, exceptions, and documentation are complete and accurately transferred to engineering and operations teams
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, project management, procurement, and sales teams to resolve technical questions and ensure proposed solutions are practical, manufacturable, and responsive to customer needs
- Develop and maintain working knowledge of Komline Sanderson products, wastewater treatment processes, applications, competitive offerings, and relevant industry standards
- Contribute to sales tools, technical presentations, proposal templates, application guidelines, competitive analyses, and product documentation; recommend improvements based on project experience
- Provide day‑to‑day technical guidance and knowledge sharing to Applications Engineer I team members and support consistent application engineering practices
- Participate in customer visits, site evaluations, training programs, trade shows, and industry events as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
- Four to seven years of experience in application engineering, process equipment, wastewater treatment, technical sales support, industrial manufacturing, or a related field
- Demonstrated ability to interpret project specifications, engineering drawings, process information, and technical documentation and translate requirements into equipment solutions
- Experience preparing technical proposals, equipment selections, cost estimates, specifications, or customer submittals with limited supervision
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to identify technical and commercial risks
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and follow‑through while managing multiple projects and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information to customers and cross‑functional stakeholders
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and collaborate effectively within a team environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
- Ability to travel domestically up to 15 percent
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar engineering design software
- Experience with municipal wastewater, industrial water treatment, filtration, separation, sludge processing, pumps, conveyors, or related process equipment
- Experience using CRM and ERP systems such as Salesforce and Microsoft Dynamics 365, or comparable platforms
- Experience working in an engineered‑to‑order equipment or industrial manufacturing environment
- Customer‑facing experience gained through application engineering, project engineering, project management, technical support, or technical sales support
