Job summary

SunSource is seeking an Application Engineer for its Heitek Automation unit in Colorado. You will serve as the technical expert, delivering demonstrations, training, troubleshooting and application support to customers, bridging technical knowledge with sales objectives.

The role requires 1–5+ years in engineering or technical support, a engineering degree, strong communication and problem-solving skills, and willingness to travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Associate degree in engineering or a related technical field.
• 1–5+ years in engineering/technical support/application roles.
• Preferred: industry experience in systems integration or controls engineering.

Responsibilities

• Customer facing: perform product demonstrations, provide technical expertise, develop viable solutions for customers.
• Collaborate with Sales and Customers to understand requirements and recommend solutions.
• Gather technical information during discovery to shape solutions.
• Size and specify components for sales opportunities.
• Develop Scope of Work from discovery information for potential projects.
• Provide new product training and ongoing product-line training to customers.
• Troubleshoot and support customers via email, phone, or onsite.

The Application Engineer serves as the technical expert and a part of our customer-facing engineering team. The Application Engineer provides pre- and post-sales support to customers. In this role the Application Engineer performs product demonstrations, training, troubleshooting, and application support. The Application Engineer is the key interface between the factory, customer, and sales to bridge the gap between technical knowledge and customer satisfaction.

Essential Functions

Collaborates with: Materials Team, Sales Team, Engineering Team, Operations Team

Key Responsibilities:

• Customer Facing: Field sales calls with the purpose of demonstrating new products, providing technical expertise, and developing a solution that can be provided by the company or a key manufacturer for the customer.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with the sales team and customers to understand application requirements and recommend suitable solutions.
• Discovery: Gather technical information that is used in the discovery process for developing a solution.
• Component Selection: Sizing and specification for component sales.
• Scope of Work: Develops Scope of Work for potential projects, using the discovery information.
• Training: New product training and training for existing product lines. This includes attending trainings to continually improve and providing training for customers.
• Troubleshooting: Support customers through email, phone, and/or onsite support for Heitek’s various product lines.

Experience, Education and Skills

Education:

• Associate’s/bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience

Experience:

• 1-5+ years of experience in an engineering, technical support, field service or application role.
• Industry-specific experience (e.g., systems integration, application engineering, controls engineering) preferred.
