Job summary

Daviess County Fiscal Court is seeking a Director of the Animal Shelter to plan, organize, and administer departmental operations in Kentucky. The role oversees staff, budgets, and daily shelter activities including adoption, public inquiries, and euthanasia, while ensuring a safe work environment.

The position serves as primary liaison with Animal Control and County Administration, coordinating with veterinarians and managing reports and compliance with state statutes.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in Business/Public Administration, Management or related field.
• Three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Kentucky Drivers License; must obtain all required licenses, certificates and registrations as mandated by state and federal laws.

Responsibilities

• Supervises the overall administration of the animal shelter in accordance with state statutes and local ordinances.
• Prepares and submits departmental budget requests and administers budget upon approval.
• Supervises department employees by overseeing scheduling, training, hiring, and evaluation of job performance.
• Responsible for monthly and annual reports including payroll and departmental activities reports.
• Supervises shelter operations including public complaints, adoption of animals, and euthanasia; ensures safety in the work environment.
• Authorizes purchases and analyzes shelter system data; contracts intermittent veterinarians.
• Acts as primary contact for Animal Control and County Administration.
