Heidi’s Village is an innovative concept in animal welfare, providing low-cost boarding and veterinary services exclusively to community rescue organizations. We are looking for people with a great attitude and work ethic, the ability to learn, and the desire to be part of a team focused on excellence.
Shifts Available
4x 10-hour shifts or 5x 8-hour shifts, 7 days/week
5:00am – 4:00pm, or 5:00am - 1:30pm (opening shifts)
8:00am – 7:00pm, or 10:30am - 7:00pm (closing shifts)
Position Available: Animal Care Technicians (ACTs) provide daily care and enrichment to Village residents while promoting the safety and health of all animals in our care.
The Position(s) Involve
- Caring for a wide range of (primarily) canines with strict adherence to quality/safety standards
- Handling and interacting with animals humanely and safely, using safety equipment as necessary
- Adhering to the Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare and following Fear Free Principles
- Following established disease control protocols to clean, disinfect, and sanitize kennels, equipment, walkways, and common areas over nearly 3 acres of property
- Ensuring all animals are adequately exercised, housed, fed, provided with water and other basic necessities
- Recognizing and accurately/timely communicating signs of illness or behavior changes
- Creating and maintaining necessary animal records and data entry
- Cultivating positive client, volunteer, and coworker relations through professional and courteous interactions
- Promoting our vision, mission, services, programs, events, and adoptable animals
- Assisting potential adopters with meet-n-greets, facilitating interactions to ensure a safe and pleasant experience
- Communicating effectively with coworkers to ensure efficient production and deadlines are met
- Participation in continuous process improvement
- Keeping work area neat and clean and following all established safety guidelines
- Performing additional and/or general duties, as assigned
A successful candidate must possess the following skillsets, attributes, or experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 6 months working/volunteering with domestic animals in an animal shelter, veterinary hospital, or another animal facility preferred. NOTE: Any applicable volunteer or work experience should be listed and include hours worked and job duties.
- Flexibility to work all shifts, including opening shifts as early as 5am and closing shifts as late as 8pm, with availabiity for rotational weekends and holidays
- Ability to work with and/or around others with frequent interruptions
- High attention to detail and exceptional quality standards
- Good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to work with a team and independently
- Ability to meet deadlines and perform work accurately, but with expediency
- Dependability/reliability – early is on time, on time is late, and late is unacceptable!
- Achievement-oriented and self-motivated

Work Environment And Physical Demands
- Collaborative environment where employees are expected to assist others regardless of job title or function
- Work is performed in a moderate to fast paced environment and requires critical adherence to established quality levels while completing within timeframe allotted
- Work is performed in a potentially high decibel area, with varied temperature control, and with safety equipment often required
- Stamina to walk/stand/move continuously and daily for duration of shift, walking on all types of surfaces, oftentimes slippery/uneven/rough
- Ability to regularly lift and/or control 50+ pounds (animals, animal care supplies, etc.) and perform duties that require repetitive lifting, bending, and stooping
- Ability to withstand environmental factors that include both indoor and outdoor activities, including extreme heat of AZ summers
- Frequent exposure to animal noises, odors, bodily fluids/excrement, and dander
