Job summary

Sandoval County is seeking a dedicated animal care technician to oversee impounded animals from intake through final disposition at the county holding facility. You will feed, exercise, monitor health, transport animals to vets, shelters, or foster homes, and ensure a safe, sanitary environment.

You will work with volunteers and the public, manage paperwork, post animals on the County website and Petfinder, and may be called on as an Animal Control Officer backup.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and one year of animal handling experience.
• Valid New Mexico Driver's License; pre-employment drug screening.
• Safety-sensitive position with random drug testing and on-call hours.

Responsibilities

• Provide full care and case management of impounded animals from intake to disposition.
• Transport animals to area adoption agencies, foster homes, veterinary clinics, and related facilities.
• Maintain safe handling and welfare of impounded animals; feed, water, exercise, and monitor health.
• Post impounded animals on the County website and Petfinder; keep accurate records.
• Respond to routine and emergency animal control calls; assist as backup Animal Control Officer.
• Review foster/adopt applications and conduct home visits; coordinate with Community Services Director.
• Ensure proper documentation and reporting for animal care cases.
