Job summary

Alexander County Government seeks an Animal Care Attendant to aid in daily care of impounded dogs and cats in the county animal shelter. Responsibilities include feeding, moving animals, cleaning kennels, and managing kennel laundry with strict sanitation protocols.

The role also supports medical tasks such as vaccination and de-worming, and may involve euthanasia assistance, front desk duties, and assisting adopters. Weekend/holiday work may be required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED.
• Possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
• Experience as a veterinary technician or assistant or with experience in a commercial kennel setting.

Responsibilities

• Feeds impounded animals following specific protocols.
• Moves animals from one enclosure to another as needed.
• Cleans & disinfects enclosures, including litter pans, according to protocols.
• Washes dog and cat bedding and kennel laundry daily.
• Provides social interaction to enhance adoptability.
• Assists with euthanasia, vaccination, and de-worming as required.
• Assists with transporting animals and accepting donations when needed.
• Counsels potential adopters and covers front desk as needed.
