Job summary

Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary seeks an on-site Per Diem Anesthesia Technician to support surgical teams. The role ensures anesthesia equipment readiness, essential supplies, and proper operating room setup, enabling safe anesthesia care.

You will assist in maintaining equipment, performing inspections, and supporting team communications. Qualifications include a High School Diploma or equivalent, BLS certification, and ASATT-preferred credentials.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of anesthesia equipment, monitors, and supplies used in surgical/procedural settings.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with the anesthesia care team and healthcare professionals.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, multitask, and adapt to changing circumstances.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology, pharmacology, and patient monitoring techniques.
• Proficiency in using computerized systems and medical record software.
• Physical stamina and ability to lift/move heavy equipment and assist in patient positioning.

Responsibilities

• Ensure anesthesia carts are supplied and machines are in each room before surgery and between procedures.
• Check and replace anesthesia gas tanks as needed.
• Retrieve specialty anesthesia supplies requested during surgery.
• Prepare complex equipment for hemodynamic monitoring.
• Ensure monitoring equipment and supplies are ready.
• Ensure the anesthesia machine is ready for use and troubleshoot issues.
• Perform daily anesthesia equipment inspections (suction, plugs, gas connections, O2, N2O).
