Job summary

Speechify is seeking an experienced Android Team Lead to own core product work, write code, review PRs, and guide a hands-on team delivering end-to-end features. You’ll partner with design and product to ship reliable releases and improve the Android app with innovative UI/UX enhancements.

The role emphasizes leadership without losing hands-on coding, fast delivery, and mentoring junior engineers in a distributed, remote environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with leadership exposure.
• Proficient in Kotlin and Android development, including MVVM and Jetpack libraries.
• Experience delivering long-running background tasks such as audio playback.
• Strong testing mindset and knowledge of test strategies.
• Brought lasting improvements to a team through new ideas.
• Comfort with change management and driving adoption.
• Ability to reason about system-wide changes and reviews.
• Proven delivery of user-facing features used by the team.
• Ability to describe how your team collaborates with AI agents.
• Product design sense and empathy for Android UI/UX.
• Self-driven to improve app and codebase.
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Own major features end to end from design to release and delivery.
• Maintain reliability metrics for key features.
• Review pull requests with constructive feedback.
• Unblock the team when blockers arise and address them personally.
• Ensure components are clean, well-documented, and reusable.
• Drive process improvements and automation for releases.
• Plan sprints and manage review load across the team.
• Collaborate with Product Design and Engineering to align constraints.
• Handle critical issues and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster growth.
