Job summary

Kaiser Permanente in Redwood City, CA seeks a professional to provide anatomic pathology services under the supervision of a pathologist. Responsibilities include preparing and dissecting human surgical specimens, and assisting with postmortem examinations.

This role requires coordinating specimen collection, documenting clinical history, and assisting in specimen accessioning and photo documentation for histology.

Responsibilities

• Obtains biological specimens for analysis; performs special procedures such as coronary artery perfusion studies, tumor triage, and faxitron (x-ray).
• Prepare human surgical specimens for gross description and dissection, describe gross features, dissect specimens and prepare tissue for histology; obtain clinical history and photograph specimens and slides.
• Perform postmortem examinations including external examinations, organ inspections, dissection and data recording; prepare tissues for frozen section and document autopsy data; obtain legal authorization as directed.
• Notify physician in charge, funeral home and authorities; coordinate sample requests; release body to mortuary following proper restoration and noting biohazards.
• May assist in administrative maintenance of pathology protocols, reports and slides; supervise lab staff and coordinate with pathologists on techniques; ensure equipment maintenance and cleanliness.
• Assist in organization of anatomic pathology conferences.
