Qualifications

• Academic training leading to a bachelor’s or master’s degree is required.
• Graduate from a NAACLS-accredited Pathology Assistant program; master’s preferred.
• Licensed as a NYS Pathologist Assistant with NYS Department of Education.

Responsibilities

• Accessions, labels, and bills specimen containers and requisitions accurately.
• Complete daily tasks in an organized way; support the team and attend meetings as appropriate.
• Use voice recognition and LIS to enter gross descriptions.
• Enter LIS data for cassettes/slides; verify billing charges and seek alternatives when needed.
• Describe and dissect surgical specimens per departmental guidelines with accuracy.
• Select samples for decalcification and submit to Histology as required.
• Dispose of tissue and chemical waste properly in the gross room.
• Perform routine work and quality control to uphold department standards.
