Job summary

Abbott Nutrition in Sturgis, MI is seeking an Assistant Chemist I for the 2nd shift. The role focuses on testing raw ingredients, in-process materials, and finished products in a clean, controlled environment.

You will ensure adherence to quality procedures while supporting manufacturing schedules. Responsibilities include maintaining training records, assisting with method validation, and communicating results to the lead chemist and supervisor.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of college lab studies and 1 year of college mathematics (algebra, geometry, trigonometry or calculus), and 2 years of laboratory experience OR 4 years in a food or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
• Alternative: Science related Associates or Bachelor’s degree with required lab studies and math plus 1 year of lab experience.

Responsibilities

• Test raw ingredients, in-process, and finished product per quality procedures.
• Maintain GMP/GLP compliance and document results.
• Develop positive relations with chemists and operators in other departments.
• Initiate troubleshooting for minor testing problems and report out-of-spec conditions.
