Job summary

The Simplot Company in Grand Forks, ND is seeking a Refrigeration Operator to maintain and operate ammonia refrigeration systems, HVAC, and fire protection. The role spans inside and outside work, with weekend/overtime requirements to meet goals.

You will join a maintenance team led by the Boiler/Refrigeration Supervisor and Maintenance Manager, needing strong safety awareness, teamwork, and the ability to act decisively in diverse environments. 2.5+ years of related experience is expected.

Qualifications

• Must have basic computer skills.
• Must have a basic knowledge and understanding of HVAC equipment and be able to change filters, belts, and do other minor repairs.
• Must have a basic knowledge of a refrigeration cycle.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
• Must have a practical mechanical background and manual dexterity in both hands.
• Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
• Must have good oral and written communication skills.
• Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, catwalks, and maneuver in tight spaces.
• Must be able to read and interpret manuals, MSDS, and engineering drawings.
• Must be able to work in moderate to high noise levels and extreme environments.
• Must possess or obtain in first week a Simplot forklift license.
• Must become certified in the use of an ammonia gas mask.
• Must complete Refrigeration Operator SJT forms and milestones.

Responsibilities

• Ensure no injuries by following safety policies.
• Perform refrigeration operational and maintenance duties; defrost freezer evaporators.
• Keep work area clean and functional.
• Complete work orders as assigned.
• Monitor fire protection systems and alarm logs.
• Troubleshoot ammonia facility; support maintenance orders with a team.
• Operate and maintain compressed air, HVAC, AMU units, and low-oxygen systems.
• Support plant safety management improvements.
