Job summary

Smithfield Foods in Monmouth, Illinois is seeking a skilled Industrial Maintenance Technician to join our 3rd shift team. You will operate and maintain boiler, ammonia refrigeration, and HVAC systems, ensuring safe, compliant operation of plant equipment.

The role requires reading schematics, using SAP and MS Office, and performing preventative maintenance, with opportunities for professional growth and tuition assistance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 1+ years of related maintenance experience or 4 years direct industrial maintenance experience.
• Ability to work with or without supervision.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience reading schematics and hydraulic drawings is preferred.
• Ammonia operator licenses (I/II/III) and related certifications preferred.
• Able to meet the physical requirements of the role.

Responsibilities

• Operate boiler system, ammonia refrigeration system, air compressors and wastewater treatment.
• Follow procedures to comply with regulations and safety requirements.
• Work on a 24/7 round-the-clock team with effective communication.
• Read, record, and interpret data from gauges and computer programs.
• Enter and retrieve information from a computer system (MS Word/Excel, SAP).
• Perform preventative maintenance and basic mechanical repairs on pumps, fans, valves, and motors.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues; use schematics for guidance.
• Install plumbing (non-welded) and handle hazardous chemicals with PPE.
• Operate PIT equipment and manage water testing for plant systems.
